Pro-Awami League 'Blue Panel' teachers on Thursday (December 29, 2022) swept the Dhaka University Teachers' Association (DUTA) election.
The panel bagged 14 posts of the 15-member executive committee, while its rival 'White Panel', backed by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), won only the vice-president post.
There were 31 candidates for 15-member executive committee posts, while the number of voters was 1,957.
Blue Panel candidate Professor Dr Md Nizamul Huque Bhuiyan of Nutrition and Food Science department was elected DUTA president with 819 votes and Professor Dr Zinat Huda of Sociology department was elected general secretary receiving 712 votes.
The voting was held from 10:00am to 2:30pm on Thursday (December 29, 2022) at the Dhaka University Club. Election Commissioner Professor Dr Sitesh Chandra Bahar announced the results at 5:00pm after voting was concluded.
Professor Dr Md Nizamul Huque Bhuiyan was elected president receiving 819 votes while his rival Blue Panel's Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam of the Physics department got 384 votes. Another rival Indpendent candidate Professor Dr AKM Jamal Uddin of Sociology department received 132 votes.
Professor Dr Zinat Huda of Sociology department was elected general secretary receiving 712 votes, while her rival White Panel's Professor Dr Siddiqur Rahman Khan of Islamic History and Culture department received 518 votes.
Blue Panel candidates Professor Dr Masudur Rahman of Marketing department was elected treasurer and Professor Dr Abu Khaled Md Khademul Huq of Islamic History and Culture department was elected joint general secretary.
All the ten executive members were elected from the Blue Panel were Professor Dr AJM Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Professor Dr AKM Saiful Islam Khan, Professor Dr Chandra Nath Poddar, Professor Dr Md Amzad Ali, Professor Dr Quamrul Hasan, Professor Dr Md Ziaur Rahman, Professor Mohammad Ali Akkas, Professor Dr Md Maksudur Rahman, Professor Dr Sharif Akhtaruzzaman and Professor Dr Sharmin Musa.
