Idi Amin remanded after surrender in militant snatching case

Idi Amin surrendered to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Dhaka in connection with a case filed against him for fleeing the court premises.

Afterward, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain of the CMM court placed Idi Amin on a four-day remand for  questioning responding to a plea of police.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)'s Crime and Information Division's sub-inspector Asrab Ali confirmed it.

Arrested Idi Amin is an accused of the case filed for snatching the militants. Receiving bail in a case filed with the city's Mohammadpur Police Station, Idi Amin and Mehedi Hasan planned to make the snatching of militants a success sitting right in the tribunal, said police.

At about 12:30pm on November 20 last, Idi Amin's associates snatched two death-row convicts -- Mainul Hasan Shamim alias Imran and Abu Siddique Sohel alias Sajid alias Shahab -- of Jagriti Publisher's owner Faisal Arefin alias Dipon murder case.

Following the incident, sub-inspector Julhas Uddin Akanda of the Department of Prosecution of CMM Court filed a case at that night. Twenty people including two snatched convicts were made accused in the case. Besides, 20 to 21 more unidentified persons were made accused in the case.

The accused of the case also include Idi Amin. Besides, other accused of the case are Shahin Alam, Shah Alam alias Salahuddin BM Mujibur Rahman, Sumon Hossain Patwary, Khairul Islam Jamil, Moinul Hasan Shamim, Abu Siddique Sohel, Mozammel Hossain Saimon, Arafat Rahman alias Siam alias Sajjad, Sheikh Abdullah alias Jubayer alias Jayed, Abdus Sabur, Rashid-un-Nabi Bhuiyan alias Tipu alias Rasel, Mehedi Hasan Omi, Syed Mohammad Ziaul Hasan alias Major Zia alias Bara Bhai, Ayman, Sabbirul Huq Chowdhury alias Konik, Tanvir alias Shamsed Mia, Reazul Islam alias Reaz amd Omar Faruque alias Noman.

It was stated in the case that the first 12 accused were brought at Anti-Terrorism Tribunal from jail. They planned to flee making contact with Major Zia and others. According to their plan, two accused were snatched from the Dhaka's Chief Judicial Magistrate court premises in the early afternoon of November 20 last launching attack on police. Idi Amin and Mehedi Hasan who were on bail in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station had planned to make the snatching incident a success sitting right at the tribunal. After appearing at the tribunal, they came out first and then launched attack in cooperation with other militants.
