Son Labu gets AL nomination in Sajeda Chowdhury's vacant seat

Late deputy leader in parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury's younger son Shahdab Akbar Chowdhury Labu has received the Awami League nomination to contest the upcoming by-polls to his mother's vacant constituency (Faridpur-2).
Labu's candidacy was finalised at the Awami League Parliamentary and Local Government Nomination Board meeting held at Ganabhaban on Tuesday (October 4) afternoon with Awami League president Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
According to the Election Commission's schedule, the by-election to Faridpur-2 will be held on November 5.
Collection and submission of nomination papers for the by-election to Faridpur-2 constituency was held on September 29 last.
The AL central office said a total of 17 persons collected the party nomination papers. They included Syed Sajeda Chowdhury's two sons Ayman Akbar Chowdhury Bablu and Shahdab Akbar Chowdhury Labu.
Faridpur-2 constituency comprises the district's Nagarkanda upazila, Saltha upazila and Sadar upazila's Krishnapur union.
According to the EC's schedule, the deadline for submitting nomination papers is October 10. The nominations will then be scrutinized until October 12, while the last date for withdrawing candidacy is September 19. Electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used to cast votes.
Senior Awami League leader Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury died on September 11 aged 87.
The Parliament Secretariat declared her seat vacant on September 13.
