BNP Senior Joint Secretary Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has termed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's call to tell the world about corruption and brutalities committed during the BNP rule as "irrelevant."

"The prime minister made the irrelevant call on expatriate Bangladeshis to conceal her government's misdeeds," he said while addressing a press conference at the party's central office at Nayapaltan in the capital on Sunday (October 2).

Rizvi said Sheikh Hasina-led government is now facing strong indignation both at home and abroad. "In order to hide the misdeeds, she (prime minister) has tried to create a magic spell by making various false remarks in Washinghton," he said.

"The Prime Minister's call to tell the world about the so-called corruption and brutalities during the BNP rule mainly intended to hide the sanctions imposed internationally due to the government's brutality," he said.

Criticising various activities of the government, Rizvi alleged that Sheikh Hasina's "crimes were pre-planned." Her crimes are against the country's people and democracy, because she wants to cling to power throughout her life. And, in order to cling to power for life, she has committed the crimes like murders, disappearances and extrajudicial killings.

"But, Sheikh Hasina will not be able to avert her consequences by doing these things. You and your government will face trial at the court of people of this country," he said.

Rizvi also claimed that there were no corruption and brutality during the rule of BNP. Country's people don't believe any wholesale propaganda against BNP. Had there been any injustice or brutality during the BNP rule, they obviously would have faced a kind of sanction from the international community. But, the BNP didn't face any such sanction when it was in power.

"None in Bangladesh is able to create dramas like her (prime minister). She can control the media, threatens the mass media through RAB and police. In spite of it, the international community has not remained silent," Rizvi said.

The BNP leader also said, "People around the world now know about the brutality and torture of Sheikh Hasina. They know about her misrule and misdeeds. She has made the entire nation hostage."
