60 students fall ill drinking tubewell water: Probe body formed

At least 60 students of a school in Thakurgaon district fell ill after drinking water from the school’s tubewell.

The school authorities formed a three-member probe body to investigate the incident.
Earlier, 60 to 70 students of Shitalpur High School in Haripur upazila suddenly suffered from acute stomach discomfort, headache and started vomiting after drinking tubewell water on last Wednesday (September 28) during tiffin period, said the school head teacher (Acting) Altafur Rahman.

Later, they were admitted to Haripur Upazila Health Complex.

The students, who are currently undergoing treatment at the health complex, are now out of danger, said the hospital resident medical officer Dr ABM Rasheduzzaman.

Dr Rashduzzaman initially assumed that there might be a harmful object in the tubewell water.

Meanwhile, the school authorities suspected that someone might have mixed poisonous things in the tubewell water. To find out the reason behind the incident, the school authorities formed a three-member probe body on Saturday afternoon.
