BNP Standing Committee member Khandkar Mosharraf Hossain has said Awami League government is conspiring to rig votes in the next general election by using electronic voting machines (EVMs).

He said, “No more vote robbery with EVMs. People will cast their vote in their own hands. They prefer to cast vote by hand.”
The BNP leader made the remarks while addressing at a programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Tuesday, marking sixth death anniversary of former BNP standing committee member Brigadier ASM Hannan Shah.

Khandkar Mosharraf said, “Awami League conducted election at night instead of the day in 2018.  It would not be allowed this time. So preparations are being made for vote robbery through EVMs.”

Regarding the purchase of EVMs, he said, “Election Commission has proposed Tk 8,000 crores as alllocation to buy EVMs. But the people of the country cannot eat. Today, there is almost a famine like situation in the country.”

Mentioning that the next general election will not be fair under this government, Khandkar Mosharraf said, “BBC journalist asked the Prime Minister whether the next election will be fair. The question unveils the fact that the last election was not fair. However, the Prime Minister replied that the next election will be fair. But the people of Bangladesh do not believe her words.”

He further said people of the country observed that Awami League was elected unopposed in 154 seats in 2014 elections.

Chaired by Gazipur BNP president Fazlul Haque, the programme was addressed, among others, by ASM Hannan Shah Smriti Sangsad member secretary Mojibur Rahman  and BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
