With the recovery of five more bodies in early Monday, the death toll from the boat capsize in Karatoya River in Boda upazila of Panchagarh district rose to 30.

Panchagarh Fire Service Civil Defence deputy assistant director Mahbub Islam said three units of Fire Service and three units of divers started the search operation from 5:30am and recovered the bodies.

Earlier, the operation stopped at 11pm on Sunday after recovery of the 25 bodies.

Many are still missing, rescue operation is underway, he added.

An engine-run trawler carrying more than 100 passengers sank in the middle of the river while heading towards Badheshwar temple on the occasion of Mayalaya from Auliar ghat around 2:30 pm on Sunday.

Some passengers managed to swim ashore but many women and children drowned as they did not know how to swim.

The accident took place due to overcrowd.
