Water shortage in Chuadanga hampers jute processing

Farmers of Chuadanga district are facing severe troubles to process their raw jute due to acute scarcity of water in local water bodies.

It was seen on Sunday that the farmers piled up raw jute in their field after cutting those there. Some were seen rotting jute in the river at a distance of five to six kilometers paying extra transport fare.
Farmers of the district said there was no water in local water bodies, canals and ponds. If the ongoing water crisis continues, they would subsequently face huge losses this year as quality fiber cannot be extracted without proper decomposition.

Chuadanga Agricultural Extension Department deputy director Bivas Chandra Saha said farmers have started cutting jute. Now the big problem is jute rotting. Due to lack of water, the farmers are not able to rot jute properly. They suggest farmers to decompose jute by 'ribbon rating' system at low cost.
