Padma Bridge: Tk 82 lakh toll collected in 8 hours

Toll amounting to Tk 82.19 lakh was collected within eight hours after opening of the Padma Bridge to traffic on Sunday morning.

The toll was collected from 6.00am to 2.00pm, said Engr Md Abul Hossain, of Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA), while talking to journalists.

He said 15,200 vehicles crossed both ends--Mawa and Janjira-- on Padma Bridge in eight hours.

He said Tk 46,89,550 was fetched from 8,438 motor vehicles at Mawa-end, while Tk 35,29,500 was fetched from 6,762 motor vehicles at Janjira-end in eight hours.

The Padma Bridge was opened for vehicular movement from 6am on Sunday.

Earlier at about 12:00noon on Saturday (JUne 25), Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 6.15 kilometre Padma Bridge at Mawa-end in Munshiganj at a colourful ceremony where thousands of distinguished guests, including foreign diplomats, were present.
