Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has claimed that the youth who had severed the wrist of a policeman at Lohagara in Chattogram is an identified criminal.

Arrested Kabir Ahmed is an identified criminal, said RAB spokesman Commander Khandker Al Moin while addressing a press conference at Chandgaon Camp of RAB-7 on Friday (May 20) morning.
Bullet-ridden Kabir and his associate Kafil Uddin were arrested following exchange of a gunfight from deep into the forest at Bara Hatia under Lohagara upazila in Chattogram district on Thursday night.

The RAB official said Kafil Uddin is also a drug peddler. He is also an accomplice of various criminal activities of Kabir.

It may be recalled that at about 10:00am on May 15 last, three persons including two police constables were attacked by accused Kabir Ahmed at Adharmanik Lalarkhil area in Lohagara upazila when they went there to arrest him.

During the attack constable Jony's wrist was hacked by a sharp weapon while Constable Shahadat Hossain, 27, and plaintiff of the case Abul Kashem, 40, also suffered injuries.

After the incident, accused Kabir's wife Ruby Begum was arrested from Bandarban border area.

Later, doctors successfully transplanted the wrist of the police constable Jony Khan, 27 at a wrist-joint replacement surgery at a private hospital in Dhaka after he was taken there by a helicopter from Chattogram, said Bhakta Chanda Dutta, Sub-Inspector of Lohagara police station.
