Dhaka City South Chhatra League general secretary Md Zubair Ahmed has been granted bail by a court.

Following the bail order, Zubair was released.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohona Alamgir passed the order on Friday.

The city's Sabujbagh police produced Zubayer at court in the afternoon. Afterward, the investigation officer (IO) pleaded to place Zubair on a five-day remand in a case filed on charges of obstructing the government work, assaulting the RAB personnnel, vandalising and stealing.

His lawyer pleaded for bail in each of the cases.

After the hearing, the court granted Zubair bail instead of accepting the IO's remand prayer in the case related to physically assulting RAB personnel.
Following the bail order, Zubair was released from the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court's custody.

After Wednesday midnight, RAB conducted a drive at Sabujbagh police station area receiving complaints that some people got involved in extortion using the Home Minister's name. At that time, Dhaka City South Chhatra League vice-president Delwar Hossain Saidee was arrested.

Following the arrest of Saidee, RAB said some 150 to 200 people led by Zubair tried forcibly to take away him (Saidee) from the RAB-3 custody.
Being failed, they launched armed attack on the RAB-3 personnel and assulted some of them. In order to defend themselves, the RAB-3 personnel arrested Zubair. Two RAB-3 personnel were also injured in their attack.

In a press release, RAB also said they arrested Dhaka City (South) Chhatra League vice-president Delwar Hossain Saidee with arms, bullets and drugs from Sabujbagh area on chrages of extorting money using the name of home minister. During his arrest, a foreign pistol, a magazine, two rounds of bullet and 578 yaba pills from his possession. He also confessed about the extortion using the name of home minister, the RAB said.

After the arrest of both Zubair and Saidee from Sabujbagh, they were taken to the RAB-3 office. On Thursday morning, several former Dhaka City (South) BCL presidents and general secretaries went to the RAB office for securing their release. They also lobbied with the RAB officials, but failed.

Later, the RAB's DAD Kamrul Hasan filed a case with Sabujbagh Police Station. Apart from Zubair, Saidee, Kawsar, Saiful Islam, Sagar were made accused in the case.

Besides, some 125 to 150 unidentified people were made accused.
