Police constable Md Jony Khan, whose left hand was severed while nabbing an accused at Lohagara in Chattogram has been shifted to Dhaka for advanced treatment.
He was sent to Dhaka from Chattogram by a helicopter at about 3:00pm on Sunday. Another police constable Shahadat Hossain who was also injured in the incident was released after giving first aid.
Chattogram city's Panchlaish Police Station's inspector (investigation) Sadequr Rahman said Lohagara Police Station's constable Jony Khan went to village Lalakhil of Ward No. 9 in Padua union under Lohagara upazila on Sunday morning to arrest a warranted accused. At that time, the accused fled away hacking his left wrist with a dao. Instantly, Jony Khan's left wrist got severed. After rescuing, he was rushed to the Ward No. 26 of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
Doctors concerned said Jony Khan bled profusely. As his condition worsened, doctors decided to send him to Dhaka by a helicopter at about 3:00pm
Lohagara Police Station's duty officer SI Nasima Akter said police personnel led by SI Bhakta Chandra Dutta went to village Lalakhil of Padua union in the morning where police came under an attack. In the attack, constables Jony and Shahadat were injured. Constable Jony's left wrist got severed due to the attack by the accused and his people.
SI Bhakta Chandra Dutta said Constable Jony was brought in Dhaka by a helicopter. "I have also come along with them. He has been admitted to Al Mannar Hospital. His operation is going on there."
