Govt cancels 10 coal-based power projects

The government has cancelled the agreements of building 10 coal-based power plants taking their risks to environment.

"As much as $12 billion US dollars were scheduled to be invested in these projects," said Saber Hossain Chowdhury, chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate, at a dialogue in the capital on Sunday (January 30).

Centre for Police Dialogue (CPD), a local think-tank, arranged the dialogue on transforming the textile and apparel industry into a green industry at Hotel BRAC Inn.

The dialogue was also addressed by BGMEA president Faruque Hasan, BKMEA executive prersident Mohammad Hatem, and Head of Mission at Swedish Embassy in Dhaka Christine Johansson.

CPD executive director Dr Fahmida Hossain moderated the dialogue.
