An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed in connection with fire that broke out in a passenger launch in the river Sugandha in Jhalakathi district.

Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station's officer-in-charge (OC) Khalilur Rahman confimed it.
He said local village defence police Jahangir Hossain filed the case on Saturday morning.

Fire broke out on Barguna's Betagi-bound launch from Dhaka early hours on Friday when it was in the middle of the river Sugandha, leaving 39 passengers dead. Witnesses said the fire had originated from the engine room.

Meanwhile, members of the probe committee formed by the Shipping Ministry to investigate the causes of accident on Saturday morning visited the burnt motor-launch MV Ovijhan-10. The three-storeyed launch has remained anchored on the bank of Sugandha at Diakul area.
