Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Jahangir Kabir Nanak has called for accepting the demand of students to take half bus fare.
The AL leader expressed his support for the students’ demand at a press conference held at his residence on Wednesday night.
Nanak said, “I think the movement on the issue of half rent is reasonable. Of course, I agree with this claim.”
“I would like to urge all those involved in transportation to accept this demand of the students without delay, considering the interests of all bus and launch owners,” he added.
Nanak, a former student leader, sharing his experience said, “We were also demanded half fare for buses during 1969-70. Students got the opportunity to pay half the rent as demanded at that time. Later, students continued to have this same facility in independent Bangladesh also.”
“So in the current context, when bus and launch fare has gone up a lot with the rise of oil prices in Bangladesh, including in the world market, I think this demand of the students is very reasonable,” Nanak added.
Nanak also said the student movement should not go towards anarchy.
