A record amount of Tk 3,07,17,585 have been found opening the donation vaults of historic Pagla Masjid at Harua in Kishoreganj town.

The iron-made eight vaults were opened this time after 4 months and 17 days.
Though the vaults are opened after every three consecutive months, the vaults were opened after about five months on Saturday (November 6). Last time, the vaults were opened on June 19 this year. At that time, cash Tk 2,33,93,779, foreign currencies and gold jewelries were found.

Kishoreganj deputy commissioner Mohammad Shamim Alam confirmed the matter on Saturday evening.

The counting of money was joined by Kishoreganj additional district magistrate Farzana Khanam, Kishoreganj Pourasava mayor and Pagla Masjid Complex Management Committee's general secretary Mahmud Parvez, executive magistrates Shafiqul Islam, Shihabul Arif, Arnab Dutta, Md Mahmudul Hasan, General Manager of Kishoreganj Branch of Rupali Bank and head of the branch Rafiqul Islam and other bank officials, managing committee members, and madrasa and orphanage teachers and students.

Pagla Masjid Complex Management Committee sources said eight vaults of the mosque were opened at about 9:00am on Saturday in presence of the district administration officials. After opening the vaults, the money were put into 12 sacks for counting. The counting of the money ended at 5:30 in the afternoon.

There is a belief that the desires of mind are fulfilled is money is donated to the Pagla Masjid. Because of it, apart from Muslims, people belonging to other religious faiths donate money here. Apart from cash, rice, lentil, cattle and poultry are also donated here. The goods are later sold through auction and the money received from the sales are deposited to the mosque's bank account.

There are rumors that many years ago a mad spiritual man took refuge in the middle of the Narsunda river on a floating mat near the present mosque and many devotees gathered around him. After the death of that mad spiritual man, a mosque was built next to his tomb which later came to be known as 'Pagla Masjid'.
