Banks, bourses to remain closed Wednesday

All banks, non-bank financial institutions and stock exchanges in the country will be closed on Wednesday (October 20) on account of Eid-e-Miladunnabi-- the birth and death anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Earlier on Thursday, the Offsite Supervision Division of the Bangladesh Bank issued a circular in this regard.

The Bangladesh Bank said in its circular that the Eid-e-Miladunnabi holiday was announced for Tuesday (October 19). However, according to the decision of the  National Moon Sighting Committee, the holiday was rescheduled for Wednesday (October 20), instead of Tuesday (October 19).

The National Moon Sighting Committee earlier announced the holiday for Wednesday (October 20) to observe the Eid-e-Miladunnabi.

As the banks will remain closed, so there will be no trading on the stock exchanges, said an official at the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).
