Scotland posted 140 runs on the board for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs vs Bangladesh in their first match of the T20 World Cup 2021 on Sunday at Al Amerat Cricket Ground.
Bangladesh bowlers dominated the game right from the first over and at one stage, Scotland were reduced to 53/6.
Mahedi Hasan was the top bowler for Bangladesh with his figures of 3/19 while Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur got two wickets each. Towards the end, Chris Greaves (47) and Mark Watt (22) added 51 runs for the seventh wicket that guided Scotland to a fighting total.
Chris Greaves was the top-scorer from the Scotland batting line-up with his 47 runs.
Bangladesh need 141 runs to win their T20 World Cup opening clash but a lot will depend on how their batters will go in the chase.
Bangladesh are coming into this tournament on the back of three consecutive T20I series wins over Zimbabwe, Australia and New Zealand. On the other hand, Kyle Coetzer-led Scotland won both their practice matches vs Namibia and Netherlands after a strong all-round performance. The top 4 teams out of 8 in Round 1 will qualify for the Super 12 stage.
