Govt doing nothing to check essentials’ price hike: BNP

Govt doing nothing to check essentials’ price hike: BNP

The government is not doing anything to address the rising prices of essential commodities in the country, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said.

“Their (government party) people are involved in the syndicate. The incident in Cumilla has taken place to divert attention from this (rising price of goods),” said Rizvi at a human chain in front of National Press Club in Dhaka arranged by Bangladesh Jatiya Dal on Friday.

About the closure of the political meeting at Press Club, Rizvi said that the reason behind not allowing the BNP to hold meeting today is because there will be disappearances in the country but no meeting or seminar will be held at Press Club.

“We will not react to the provocation of this government. Every step of Sheikh Hasina has made the people of this country an opponent.”

Sheikh Hasina did not set an example that there could be a non-partisan election, Rizvi said, adding that she (Sheikh Hasina) had once campaigned for a non-partisan election, but now she has dropped this for fear of losing power.

BNP joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon and executive central member Abu Naser Rahmatullah, among others, were present.
