Mentioning that the Digital Security Act (DSA) is not enacted for journalists, Law Minister Anisul Huq has said action would be taken against those who are tarnishing the image of the country by staying abroad under this law.

Those who are tarnishing the image of the government and the country abroad will be brought under the cyber crime law, the minister said, adding that even if they are abroad, they will be considered to have committed crimes in Bangladesh.

Anisul Huq made this comment at ‘Meet the Reporters’ programme held at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday.

He said the Digital Security Act also proposes action against those involved in digital consumer fraud activities Evaly.
Responding to a question on journalists being threatened for covering reports on Rajarbag Darbar Shareef, the Law Minister said if anyone wants to harras journalist action will be taken against that person.

Whatever needs to be done to stop harassment will be done, he added.

In response to a question over BNP’s comments on the elections, the minister said, “Fair and neutral elections was held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina-led government in the past and will be held in the future also.”

Mentioning to the BNP’s objection on Election Commission, he said, “We have to abide by the law of the constitution to form the EC. What has not been a clear law in 50 years of  of independence will be done now.”

Anisul Huq said the election commission would be formed through a search committee. Before that a new commission has to be formed, he added.

“There is no opportunity to form an election commission through a new law within this period. So the commission will be formed first,” said the Law Minister.

DRU President Morsalin Nomani presided over the programme while general secretary Moshiur Rahman Khan conducted it.
