A housewife was stabbed to death by her husband in city’s Shyampur area on Monday night over family dispute.

Deceased Shirin Akter, 35, was the wife of Litu Kazi, a rickshaw-puller by profession.

Neighbors, however, caught Litu Kazi after the incident and handed him over to police.
Sajeeb Kumar Dey, inspector (Investigation) of Kadamtali Police Station, said, "An altercation took place between the couple at night. At one stage, out of anger, Litu stabbed his wife with a knife indiscriminately."

Hearing screams of Shirin, neighbors rushed to the house and rescued her. They took her to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared Shirin dead.

Police found several injury marks on the body.

They seized the knife from the spot.

The body was kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy,  the police official said.
