A woman allegedly attempted to commit suicide after slaughtering her four-year-old son at Sadar upazila in Laxmipur district on Sunday night.

Laxmipur Sadar Model Police Station officer in-charge Jasim Uddin said that Sabina Yasmin, wife of Saudi-expatriate Asgar Ali, slaughtered her son Ayan Rahman in their rented house at Laharkandi village around 11:00pm over family feud.

Family members sensed the matter while she was trying to hang herself after killing son.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Laxmipur Sadar Hospital morgue. They also detained Sabina and took her to the police station, he added.

It was learnt that the couple had recently been in dispute over financial crisis.

On Sunday night, they again locked into an altercation through mobile phone over the feud. At one stage, she became angry, slaughtered her asleep son and then, tried to kill herself.

Meanwhile, Sabina said that she could not bear the pain when her husband told her that he would divorce her. Subsequently, she killed her child and tried to kill herself too
