Two trains on same track, passengers escape unhurt

Two trains came face to face on the same track in Dharmapur area of Cumilla on Tuesday. However, in the end, the two trains were saved from the head-on collision for a while. Two drivers were able to stop the trains at a distance of 120 yards.
The incident took place around 2:15 pm.
According to railway officials, the Dhaka-bound Karnaphuli Express Train was scheduled to arrive at Cumilla Station at 1.25 pm. However, it was entering in into the station about 20-25 minutes late. At that time, a Chattogram-bound stone-laden train was coming from the opposite direction.
Passengers of Karnaphuli Express Train started to get down from the train after knowing that two trains are on the same line. However, no one was injured at that time.
Meanwhile, the staff of Karnaphuli Train has complained about the negligence of the Cumilla Station master in this incident.
Cumilla Railway Station Master Safiqur Rahman Bhuiyan said, “It may be occurred due to a misunderstanding. Train services on Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet routes were suspended for some time.”
Cumilla Railway Station’s Senior Deputy Assistant Engineer (Roads) Liaqat Ali Majumder said, “I have heard of two trains entering on the same line. Action will be taken in this incident after investigation.”
