Drives against so-called celebrities to continue: AL

Ruling Awami League leaders on Thursday said that drives against so-called celebrities would continue as they were misguiding the young generation and spreading pervert culture.

Party leaders made the remark while addressing a discussion at AL central office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.

Dhaka City South Awami League organised the discussoon marking the 72nd birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal, the elder son of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

AL presidium member Mohammad Abdur Razzaque said that the party alongside law enforcement agencies would get tougher on the people who are collecting extortions in names of associate organisations of the party.

"Those, who are creating fake organisation using the word league, they will be expelled from the party and will be taken to justice," said Razzaque, also the agriculture minister.

He said that the party president and prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, is very strict and antagonistic towards the activities like flouting of organisations and collecting extortion using the names of the party.

"Some so-called celebrities are spreading perverted culture and misguided the young generation. Drives have been started to unmask the people and such drives will continue," he added.

Addressing the programme, AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said that economic development in the country was very much evident, but the moral development among the people was still in a backward situation.

"We want to remove this immorality from the society through the drive. The drive started and will continue," he said.

He also said that many people are keen to be leaders because the party is in power.

They, however, are not following proper procedure, he added.

"If you want to do politics in Awami League, you have to have follow an ideology," he said, adding that those who are giving the name of league and the founding president of the country before and after the name of an organisation, they cannot be ideal activists.

Recently some showbiz actresses, including Pori Moni, have been arrested by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for their alleged involvement in offences.

Two Awami League activists, including Helena Jahangir, have also been arrested after flouting two organisations with the word league at the tail of the names of the organisations.
