A suspected Rohingya robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf Upazila of Cox's Bazar early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Nurul Haque Nur,45, leader of a Rohingya robber gang 'Nuru Bahini'.

Cox's Bazar RAB-15 Teknaf CPC-1 camp in-charge Lt. Commander Mahbub confirmed the matter.

He said that a team of the elite force raided Damdamia area under Hnila Union.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers the gang opened fire on them, forcing the RAB men to fire back that triggered the gunfight.

The body was recovered from the spot when the gunfight was over and was sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

They also recovered three guns, one pistol and some bullets from the spot, said the officer.

Two RAB members-- CPA Md Yasin and constable Md Mahfuzul Alam also received injuries during the encounter, he added.

A case was filed with Teknaf Police Station.
