Expressing grave concern, leaders of Nagorik Samaj have observed that the government is discharging its duties and responsibilities properly for people.
They said reopening of ready-made garment factories in a single day's notice was nothing but very inhuman and undesirable. Workers have faced great difficulties for the decision for reopening the garment factories without allowing public transports to ply on roads and highways. As a result, they joined their workplaces by walking, paying more fares, and going through lots of sufferings.
The Nagorik Samaj leaders were speaking at a meeting held at Ganashastya Kendra at Dhanmondi in the capital on Wednesday.
With Ganashasthya Kendra founder and trustee Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury in the chair, the meeting was attended by the leaders of Bhasanni Onushari Parishad, Nagorik Oikya, Bangladesh Kalyan Party, Ganasanghati Andolon, Chhatra Jubo Odhikar Parishad, Ganaforum, Bikalpadhara Bangladesh (partial) and Mehnati Janata.
Speakers at the meeting called for vaccinating all garment workers within the next one week on emergency basis.
They also demanded for reopening all the educational institutions including colleges and universities as soon as possible. Besides, all the students must be brought under vaccination programme, they said.
Quoting the statistics, the Nagorik Samaj leaders said the government has 1.14 crore doses of Covid vaccine in stock. More 6 lakh vaccine doses would come from Japan. All the factory workers and students must be vaccinated with these vaccines.
