PCR Lab infected by virus, unusual results

PCR Lab infected by virus, unusual results

Coronavirus infection has spread to the Covid Identification Lab and PCR Machine at Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital in Gazipur. As a result, test of samples at the lab has remained suspended over the last two days.

As many as 123 samples were put on the PCR Machine for Covid-19 tests on Monday afternoon. After the tests, 115 samples came Covid positive and 8 negative. Suspicion grew among the authorities concerned about the lab's equipment due to the unusual results. The samples collected were later sent to Dhaka for re-test.

Dr S.K. Saiful Alam, assistant professor at the Microbiology Department of Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital, said on Wednesday afternoon that work of sample tests was suspended on Tuesday due to the PCR Lab infected by virus.

However, process is going on to send the samples for test to Dhaka through the district civil surgeon's office, he said.
