BNP is making falsehood over August 15 carnage: Quader

BNP is making falsehood over August 15 carnage: Quader

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Tuesday said BNP is making falsehood and spreading misleading information over the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15, 1975.

“It is now clear to the nation who the perpetrators of Bangabandhu assassination were. Now BNP leaders are making their failed attempts in a new way to hide the historical truth with their comments, but there will be no benefit in doing so,” he said.

Quader made the comment at a press conference at his official residence which was arranged in protest of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s “false and misleading” comments centering Bangabandhu’s assassination.

The minister said when the month of August comes, BNP becomes active with “heartache over the bloody past” to carry out their evil acts to hide the historical truth.

He said: “It is now clear to the nation who were the beneficiaries of Bangabandhu’s assassination, killer Mostaq made whom the army chief, what was the role of Zia, killers had reported to whom after staging the carnage and what was the comment of Zia at that time.”
About BNP secretary general’s comment that “Awami League was involved in Bangabandhu’s assassination and the government wants to tarnish the image of Ziaur Rahman”, the AL general secretary said BNP today fabricated a queer tale and their such comment is as like as the proverb ‘A guilty mind is always suspicious’.

“Why will we go for tarnishing Zia’s image? In course of time, history itself fixes the positions of respective persons through thorough analysis. It is not possible to turn a villain into a hero of history,” he said.

Quader said the people will never accept the evil attempts to show Ziaur Rahman as innocent of August 15 carnage.

“Who had helped Bangabandhu’s killers flee abroad? Who had rehabilitated and rewarded the killers and given jobs in Bangladesh missions abroad?” he questioned BNP leaders.

Pointing to Mirza Fakhrul, he asked who had incorporated the Indemnity Act in the constitution of independent Bangladesh through the 5th amendment to the constitution to give immunity from legal action against those involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu.

“If Zia was so innocent, why had he stopped the trial?” he said.

The AL general secretary said BNP frequently talks about human rights and democracy. “But we could not even seek for justice in 21 years since the assassinations of Bangabandhu and most of his family members,” he said.

He said Ziaur Rahman had even snatched away the rights of demanding justice.

After the assassination of Bangabandhu, Ziaur Rahman had introduced ‘curfew democracy’ and multi-party mockery in the name of multi-party democracy.

Staying in power Ziaur Rahman had arranged a farcical election through ‘yes-no’ voting and stigmatized the country’s history of elections, he mentioned.

Quader said BNP could not yet leave their practice of killings in the country’s politics as August 15 carnage, November 3 jail killing and August 21 grenade attacks are perpetrated in continuation of the same conspiracy.

The minister said BNP had given directives and monitored incidents of grenade attacks on AL rally from their Hawa Bhaban by using the state machinery.

During the period, the then Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia said in parliament that the then Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina had carried the grenades inside her handbag, he recalled.

“Then why had you staged ‘Joj Mia Drama’? Why did you destroy evidences of killings?” he questioned BNP leaders.

Quader said AL does politics for the people from its inception and Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is doing politics and running the government by feeling the pulse of the people.

He urged the BNP to come out of their nasty political history if truly they want to do politics in a healthy trend in the country.
