A probe committee has recommended departmental action against a health worker for allegedly discarding syringes in basket without pushing vaccine doses on recipients’ bodies in Tangail’s Delduar upazila.
The health worker is Sajeda Afrin. She is working as assistant health inspector in Delduar Upazila Health Complex.
Locals said Sajeda Afrin was vaccinating at booth No. 2 of Delduar Upazila Health Complex around 11am on Sunday. At that time, even though she inserted the needles in the bodies of the recipients, she was hurrying and throwing the syringes in basket without injecting vaccine.
The matter came to the notice of some people who came to the vaccination center. They informed Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Shamim Hossain.
Later, RMO found the abandoned syringes in the basket. Then he saw the vaccine inside 20 syringes. He informed the matter to the Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer.
A three-member probe committee was formed headed by the district’s deputy civil surgeon Md Shamim Hussain Chowdhury. Following the investigation, the committee submitted its report to the Civil Surgeon on Monday noon.
Shamim Hussain said they have found the truth of the allegation of throwing the syringe without injecting the vaccine. The accused assistant health inspector herself has admitted the matter. The investigation committee has recommended action against her.
The assistant health inspector told the probe committee that this was due to her own illness and high pressure from vaccine recipients.
Tangail district Civil Surgeon Abul Fazal Md Sahabuddin Khan confirmed receiving the investigation report and said that the report has been sent to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Departmental action will be taken against the accused assistant health inspector, he added.
