Fire at Kamlapur BRTC bus depot

A bus has burnt in fire at Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) depot at Kamlapur in Dhaka.
Witnesses said the fire broke out in the bus at about 6:30pm on Saturday. Four units of Fire Services succeded to douse the fire after a half an hour of efforts. However, it could not be known instantly how the fire broke out.
Fire Services workers said there were more than 100 buses due to suspension of plying of vehicles in the ongoing lockdown. Buses were saved owing to prompt action. However, fire had spread to a bus before the fire fighters reached teh spot.
Fire Services' Khilgaon Station in-charge Abdul Mannan said they rushed to the spot receiving information and took steps so that fire could not spread to other buses. They were also cautious because of the existence of a patrol pump near the bus depot. Subsequently, they managed to bring the fire under control without major losses.
The bus which had burnt was bought in 2012, said the Fire Services workers quoting the BRTC staff. The losses incurred amounted to Tk 10 lakh. However, government resources worth crores of taka were save owing to the prompt actions taken by the Fire Services workers.
Officials said it could not be known how the fire originated. A BRTC committee is working on the matter. If necessary, Fire Services experts would assist them.
