No Eid-ul-Azha congregation will be held at historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj district this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The authorities concerned have cancelled the 194th Eid-ul-Azha congregation at Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj this year.
Besides, decision has been taken not to hold Eid congregation at any open spaces or open grounds.
The decisions were taken at an online meeting by Sholakia Eidgah Committee on Thursday in view of the high trend in coronavirus infection.
Speakers at the meeting said more than 100 people are being infected with the virus in Kishoreganj district, and five of them die. People are coming from different parts of the country including the capital Dhaka on the occasion of Eid. Some of them might be infected with Covid-19. Taking all these issues into consideration, it was decided not to allow Eid congregations at Sholakia Eidgah Maidan and other open spaces in the district.
The meeting also directed the mosques to hold Eid congregations following the health guidelines strictly. Islamic Foundation was also asked to ensure holding the congregations at mosques.
The meeting was chaired by Md Shamim Alam, president of the Sholakia Eidgah Committee and Deputy Commissioner of Kishoreganj district.
The Deputy Commissioner said allowing Eid congregation at Sholakia Eidgah Maidan would be a self-destructive decision amid the current coronavirus pandemic. Each mosque in the district asked to hold more than one Eid prayer in accordance with 18 conditions given by the government to the Islamic Foundation.
