Homebound people gather at Banglabazar-Shimulia route


Launch and ferry services have started on Banglabazar-Shimulia route as the government relaxed strict lockdown across the country. Mass people have started returning home ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha.

According to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), 12 ferries have resumed services on the route since Wednesday morning. Passenger attendance at the pier has increased since the announcement of the lockdown relaxation from Thursday.

Meanwhile, the intensity o

f the current in the Padma River has increased over the last few days. As a result, ferry traffic is being disrupted. It takes more than one and half an hour to cross the Padma than usual.

The number of vehicles waiting to cross the wharf is also increasing.

BIWTC Banglabazar ferry manager Salahuddin Ahmed said the presence of passengers at has increased since the announcement of the lockdown relaxation from Thursday.
