Kashmiri Sikh girl says she willingly converted to Islam

Kashmiri Sikh girl says she willingly converted to Islam

A formerly Kashmiri Sikh girl, who is in the middle of a ‘love jihad’ row following an uproar from the Sikh community that women were being forcibly converted by Muslims, has come out in her defence and said in a video that she "willingly converted to Islam" and that there was no pressure from her husband's side.

Releasing a video message, she said that she chose her new faith willingly and was happy living with her husband.

She said that previously Veeranpal Kaur, she has now assumed the name of 'Khadija’, and that there was no truth in the allegations claiming that "conversions were being done at gunpoint".

"I willingly converted to Islam. The Sikh community has been very rude over the past few days. I saw my name also surface, so I thought of recording a video and uploading it on the internet to prove my case," she said in the video.

In the video message, Khadija clarifies that both, the court where she registered her wedding and the Maulvi who convened the rituals, not only confirmed her date of birth, but also wanted to be doubly sure she was not converting to Islam under any duress.

The girl claims that Islam's teachings influenced her to adopt it.
