Shela Guha, an old woman without a home, had to beg for food barely months back. Now help is there and that is from the Prime Minister!

"We've become lakhpoti (one who owns assets worth Tk 100k) overnight," Shela, a resident of Sreemangal upazila, told PM Sheikh Hasina after receiving a home under the Ashrayan-2 project on Sunday.

Moved by the gift of life, a semi-pucca house, Shela burst into tears of joy.

She shared her feelings with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during a virtual function arranged to hand over 53,340 tin-shed houses on two decimals of land to the homeless families across the country in the second phase of the Mujib Year.

The Prime Minister inaugurated the home-distribution activities in 459 upazilas through the videoconference from her official residence Ganobhaban.

Shela Guha, who got a modern abode among 300 houses constructed at Maijdihi in Kalapur Union of Sreemangal upazila, said they are very glad having the house.

"Today we're very happy, today our beggary is over and this has been possible because of the daughter of Bangabandhu -- Sheikh Hasina," a tearful Shela said.

Shela wished the Prime Minister good health and long life, and eternal peace for the departed soul of Bangabandhu. "I'll light a candle every day for you (Sheikh Hasina) so that my sister remains happy and is not infected by Coronavirus."

Shela Guha said she wants Sheikh Hasina to visit her home and have a meal with Satkora meat (a local curry) and vegetables cooked by herself (Shela).

Hearing her emotional words, the Prime Minister also got emotional and wiped out her tears. "I must try to come (visit), if I get the scope," she said.

The Prime Minister also heard the feelings of beneficiaries of the housing project in Kurigram Sadar, Rangunia of Chattogram and Jhenaigati of Sherpur through the videoconference.

In January last, nearly 70,000 families got the houses equipped with sanitary facilities in the first phase of the same project.

Some 100,000 more houses will be given to the homeless families within the next December in line with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's announcement that not a single person will remain homeless and landless in the country in the Mujib Year.
