Leader and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on Thursday afternoon engaged in a clash with police in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan area.
Several activists of the organization, including police, were injured at that time. The leaders and activists of the organization vandalized several vehicles.
However, police have arrested six activists of the student body from the spot.
The incident took place when the leaders and activists of the central Chhatra Dal staged a protest in front of the Nayapaltan central office in the afternoon in protest of the clash between Chhatra Dal men and police in the Charkalibari area of Mymensingh city.
Chhatra Dal leaders and activists said police launched an attack on them from behind when more than five hundred leaders and activists brought out a protest procession in front of the BNP central office. Some of their leaders and activists were injured in the incident.
Witnesses said that when the procession was foiled by the police, the leaders and activists of the Chhatra Dal took position at the central office in Naya Paltan and in the surrounding lanes. Later they marched in front of the office again with sticks. Then the police did not obstruct them.
Paltan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Bakr Siddiqi said suddenly Chhatra Dal activists started vandalizing on the road in Paltan area.
“They unexpectedly attacked the police box and vandalized car. They also staged street protests. Later, the police removed the Chhatra Dal activists from the road to ensure the safety of the people. After the police took to the streets, they themselves moved away from the road and scattered in different places.”
Six people have been arrested after the incident, he added.
