Illegal connections: Karnaphuli Gas GM among 2 held

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday arrested the general manager (GM) of Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited Md, Sarwar Hossain, and another official in a case filed over giving illegal gas connection to different residential areas in Chattogram through forgery.
They were arrested from Sholoshahar area in the port city in the afternoon.
The other arrested officer is Mujibur Raman, manager of Foujdarhat transmission branch of the company.
Confirming the matter, the ACC's Chattagram office deputy assistant director Md Sharif Uddin said the arrested officials were produced before the court.
Former GM Mohammad Ali Chowdhury, a technician and Mujibur Rahman, son of former minister Nurul Islam BSc, were also made accused in the case.
Md Sharif Uddin, plaintif of the case, said gas connection remained suspended in the residential areas since 2016. But, any client can shift his/her connection.
Mujibur Rahman gave gas connection to 12 double burner stoves of his residence which had been allocated to one MM Salam in Chandgaon area through forgery .
After investigation, the ACC filed a case in this connection in 2018
