Journalist Rozina sued under Official Secrets Act

A case has been filed against Prothom Alo journalist Rozina Islam for allegedly taking pictures of government documents at Secretariat.
The Health Ministry’s deputy secretary Shibbir Ahmed Osmani lodged the case ( No-16) on Monday night with Shahbagh Police Station under Official Secrets Act.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Harun-ur-Rashid confirmed the matter. He said journalist Rozina Islam has been shown arrested in the case.
Earlier, Health Ministry officials handed over journalist Rozina Islam to Shahbagh police after confining her for five hours in a room inside the Secretariat.
Rozina went to the ministry office in the Secretariat to perform her professional duties. The ministry officials detained her in a room at about 3.00pm. Later, Rozina was handed over to Shahbagh Police Station around 8:30 pm. She was taken to the police station around 9.00pm.
Journalist Rozina fell ill at one stage while she was detained at the Secretariat.
Journalists from various outlets first protested in front of the Secretariat and then they moved to Shahbagh Police Station. They gathered there and chanted slogans demanding the release of Rozina.
Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Health and Family Welfare Ministry Maidul Islam said a complaint had been lodged against Rozina Islam for taking pictures of some official documents.
Rozina Islam’s sister Sabina Parveen said her sister went to meet the health secretary to perform her professional duties. “Officials there misbehaved with my sister and at one point she was confined and fell ill suddenly.”
Jatiya Press Club President Farida Yasmin condemned the alleged harassment of journalist Rozina Islam and demanded proper investigation into the incident.
