The government is planning to extend the ongoing countrywide lockdown along with ban on mass transport operation for seven more days after ending of the last phase on May 23.
The Health Ministry has already recommended the government to extend the restriction along with restricting transport operations considering the existence of Indian variant of the deadly Coronavirus which can be devastating for the country if it spreads widely.
While briefing media about the initiative of the government to complete Covid-19 vaccination, Health Minister Zahid Maleque on Monday gave the information.
He said, "Although the borders between Bangladesh and India are closed, we are afraid of the virus transmission in the country. We have already found the Indian variant in the country. Considering the situation, we have already requested the government to keep the borders closed for a few more days and extend the restriction along with mass transport suspension."
In response to a query about duration of the existing restriction, he said that they are planning to resist spread of the virus widely. So, it's      hard to say about the deadline of the restriction.
Regarding permission of producing Chinese vaccine in the country, the Minister said they haven't yet given permission to any pharmaceutical company.
"Several companies have proposed to produce the vaccine. But, we haven't yet received the proposal from the Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA). If it sends the proposal, it would be considered following approval of the government top brass," he said adding, "It would take four to five months to produce the vaccine in the country, if the producers have all the facilities. As a result, the government is initially planning to meet up the demand by importing vaccines."
