Resumption of long-haul bus services demanded

Road transport owners and workers have taken to the streets even on the day of Eid demanding the resumption of long-distance buses across the country in compliance with health guidelines.

They staged sit-ins at bus and truck terminals across the country, including the capital city on Friday.

Transport workers started a sit-in at 10.00 am at Mohakhali bus terminal in Dhaka. Besides, members of the Sayedabad Inter-District and City Bus Terminal Workers Committee also took their position and staged sit-in programme at Sayedabad led by Haji Mohammad Ali Suba, president of  Dhaka Metropolitan Road Transport Workers Union.

Leaders who joined in the programmes said that everything including markets and shopping malls have been opened during lockdown amid the spread of Coronavirus. All transport is running. Thousands of people are traveling on ferries. People are being trampled to death by the crowd. But there are various excuses for launching public transport. In this situation, the transport workers are spending their days without food.
