BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said their party leaders and activists have not been able to feel the joy of Eid for a decade as they have been subjected to killing, enforced disappearance and other repressive acts.
“What we always mean by Eid is that we have not had Eid for the last one decade. Because, false cases have been filed and leaders have been disappeared. Such a situation exists as if only our leaders and activists are the accused in this country,” Fakhrul told journalists after visiting the grave of BNP founder late President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital at 11:30 am on Friday.
Fakhrul said, “Eid never comes to the families those who become accused in cases, it is a reality. The ruthless atrocities of this government are indescribable. We are going through this situation.”
“When Khaleda Zia is with us, we get spirited, she inspires us. Now we are revived in this way thinking that she is alive. This is what motivates us. We will move forward with this inspiration,” he added.
Expressing his vow to defeat fascism, the BNP general secretary said, “May Allah bless us so that we can gain strength to get rid of the fascism and authoritarianism that has been established all over the country.”
He said, “Everyone knows that Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated today, with great difficulty. On the one hand, the horrific attack of Coronavirus, on the other hand, tyranny, torture and oppression of the fascist government. I am praying for the country to be saved from this monster.”
