Ferry operations will remain suspended during the day: BIWTC
No ferries will ply on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar riverine routes during the day from today (Saturday) to prevent coronavirus transmission, said Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) in an order on Friday night.

However, the ferries will ply at night for transporting ambulances and goods carrying trucks and other vehicles.

BIWTC Chairman Syed Md Tajul Islam said the ferry operations will remain completely suspended  during the daytime on Paturia-Daulatdia and Shimulia-Banglabazar routes to prevent coronavirus transmission.

He, however, said ferries will be operated at night for crossing vehicles, ambulances and goods carrying trucks.

The decision has been taken in the wake of tremendous pressure of home-bound passengers to leave the capital for their village home to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their near and dear ones.
