On Tuesday, the Texas Legislature passed two critically important bills that would allow Texas to fight national efforts to eliminate fossil fuels.
House Bill 17 protects consumers by preventing political subdivisions from discriminating against certain energy sources such as natural gas and coal; This will ensure that cities and counties cannot pass California-style ordinances that prohibit gas hook-ups in new buildings or homes.
"The winter storm underscores the importance of giving people the opportunity to use natural gas in their homes," said RRC Commissioner Wayne Christian. "99% of consumers connected to natural gas for the duration of the winter storm Uri ensure that they provide fuel for cooking their food and heating the house."
Senate Bill 13 prevents our state from investing in environmental, social, and administrative (ESG) financial products that exclude Texas energy companies.
