Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Tuesday conducted two separate drives at city’s Bashundhara City Shopping Complex and New Market and fined 29 people for not wearing mask amid the outbreak of cornavirus.
They conducted a drive at Bashundhara City Shopping Complex 12 noon in a bid to make the buyers and sellers follow health guidelines.
The visitors were giving various excuses not to wear masks. Some say they forgot, some were walking around the market with a mask in their pocket instead of mouth. Md. Riyad, 28, was fined Tk 500 by a mobile court. He claimed he had a mask on his face. However, it is torn. He fell in front of the court wearing a mask.
A total of 17 cases have been filed in the one-hour operation. At that time 17 people were fined Tk 5,500. Executive Magistrate Sheikh Rafiqul Islam led the operation.
“Both buyers and sellers have to abide by the health guidelines, which many do not do. Many shopkeepers in the markets do not wear masks themselves. They put the mask in their pockets. There is no chance of negligence in this way,” said the executive magistrate.
Meanwhile, another mobile court run by DMP raided New Market area led by executive magistrate Sanjeeb Das.
The court fined 12 people Tk 5,000 in 12 cases for not wearing masks and not following the health guidelines.
