The government has approved three-day Eid holiday for all employees at the government, non-government, and mills and factories to contain the spread of contagious coronavirus transmission. The employees must stay at their working places during the Eid holidays, said State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain.
"A three-day Eid holiday has been approved for both government and private employees this time so that none can go anywhere else and leave Dhaka, because Dhaka is high transmission area for Covid-19. Some 80 per cent of coronavirus transmission is taking place in the capital," he said.:
The state minister said the government will face more difficulties if the workers leave Dhaka or its adjoining areas during the Eid. "So, we want all would stay at their working places. Directives have also been issued saying that there will be three-day Eid vacation.
"We are saying that those who will be here must not shift to anywhere else. Coronavirus infection may rise if people start coming out of their houses. We are closely monitoring the coronavirus situation. So, we have remained alert," he said.
Earlier on Monday (May 3), the cabinet decided to approve three-day Eid holiday. No organisation would be able to provide any recreational facilitries. The decision was taken on Monday.
