25 killed in Madaripur speedboat-bulkhead collision

At least 25 people were killed in a collision between a sand-laden bulkhead and a speedboat in the Padma River in Madaripur's Shibchar on Monday morning.

Several people are still missing after the accident that occurred around 7am at Kanthalbari Puraton Ghat area.

Banglabazar Ferryghat's traffic police's inspector Ashiqur Rahman said a passenger speedboat was heading towards Banglabazar ferryghat from Munshiganj's Shimulia. Suddenly, it sank after being hit by the bulkhead. 

So far, 25 bodies were recovered while five were rescued alive. They were taken to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex.

The deceased could not be identified yet.

Rescue operation is on, Ashiqur Rahman said.
