Bangla Academy DG on life support

Bangla Academy's director general Poet Habibullah Siraji is now on ventilation support (life support) at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital.

Jatiya Kabita Parishad general secretary Poet Tarique Sujat said, "Habibullah Siraji has been admitted to hospital. I have learnt from the Bangla Academy and various other sources that he has been kept on life support. His condition is very critical. A medical board has been constituted to supervise his treatment. The medical board members have been supervising his treatment together.

Bangla Academy sources said Habibullah Siraji was suffering from sickness for a couple of days. He was admitted to hospital in the first week of February when the Amar Ekushey Book Fair was going on. Then he recovered from illness and returned to home. As his condition deteriorated on Monday, he was admitted to Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital.

Habibullah Siraji has served Jatiya Kabita Parishad as president four terms. Now, he is serving as the director general of Bangla Academy. He was admitted to hospital in February with cardiac and digestion complications. Rings were put on his heart on February 27. He returned home on March 2.

He was born on December 31, 1948 at village Rasulpur in Faridpur district. His father Abul Hossain Siraji and mother Jahanara Begum. He passed matriculation from Faridpur Zila School, intermediate from Rajendra College in Faridpur, B.Sc in Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in 1970.

Poet Habibullah Siraji received Ekushey Padak, Bangla Academy Literary Award, Jessore Literary Parishad Award, Bishnu Dey Award, Jatiya Kabita Parishad Award.
