Moneybag, mobile theft case filed against Mamunul

Hefazat-e-Islam’s joint secretary general Mamunul Huque has been accused in a case filed against him for stealing monebag and mobile phone from inside a mosque. The complaint was lodged in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station on March 7 in 2020. There have also been allegations of assault and beatings in the case.

Mamunul Huque’s name has been mentioned as the seventh accused in the case. However, it is mentioned that the father’s name is unknown.

A court in Dhaka on Monday placed him on a seven-day remand after hearing the plea of sub-inspector Sajedul Haque, the investigating officer in the case.

According to the remand application, the incident took place on March 8 last year at Sat Gambuj Mosque in Mohammadpur area. Accused Omar and Osman, students of Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa, forbade plaintiff GM Alamgir Shaheen and others with him to perform religious work in the mosque as per the orders of Mamunul Huque and his brother Mahfuzul Haque at 8:30 pm on that day. They hurt their religious sentiments and Mamunul Haque’s men told them to get out of the mosque.

When GM Alamgir Shaheen protested, Omar, Osman, Shaheen, Maulana Anis and Zahir attacked seven to eight people who were with Shaheen inside madrasa following the order of Mamunul Huque and his brother Mahfuzul Haque.
At that time, plaintiff Shaheen went ahead and he was beat up indiscriminately. Immediately on the instructions of Mamunul Huque, 60-70 students of the madrasa came out and beat Shaheen and seriously injured him.

The remand plea also mentioned that the accused then took a plaintiff’s Samsung A-50 mobile phone, Tk 7,000 in cash, 200 dollar, a debit card of BRAC Bank and plaintiff’s moneybag. The accused threatened to kill Shaheen if he re-entered the mosque.
