Abdul Matin Khasru's first janaza on Thursday morning

The first namaj-e-janaza of newly-elected president of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), former law minister and senior advocate Abdul Matin Khasru will be held at the High Court premises in the capital on Thursday morning.

Then Abdul Matin Khasru's body will be taken to his village home at Burichang upazila in Cumilla district where his second namaj-e-janaza will be held at Burichang upazila high school ground. He will be buried at his family graveyard at his village home in  Mirpur after his third namaj-e-janaza.
The decision was taken by the family of Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru, said his personal assistant Advocate Mohin.

Abdul Matin Khasru died at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon. The Covid-19 infected Khasru had been put on life support since Tuesday afternoon.

The senior lawyer was shifted to the intensive care unit on April 6 as infections developed in his lungs after he recovered from COVID-19, his wife Selina Sobhan Khasru said.

Khasru, also the chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, was admitted to the CMH on March 16 with COVID-19 symptoms.

He later was diagnosed with coronavirus infection.

Khasru was elected the SCBA president on March 11 election, but could not participate in the ceremony of taking charge from the previous executive committee on Monday because of his illness.

Abdul Matin Khasru was elected as a lawmaker in five consecutive general elections and was appointed as the law minister in Awami League government’s first tenure in 1996-2001.
