AL lawmaker Abdul Matin Khasru passes away

Coronavirus-infected Awami League lawmaker and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Abdul Matin Khasru passed away at a city hospital on Wednesday (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihi Rajiun). He was 71.
Physicians of the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka declared him dead in the afternoon, AL deputy office secretary Sayem Khan confirmed media about the death.
He had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since March 16 after being infected with Covid-19 and was put on life support on Tuesday.
Towards the end of March, and right at the beginning of April, Khasru seemed on the road to recovery. He was out of the ICU, and a Covid-19 test result came out negative on April 1.
His physical condition started worsening after that, and on April 6, he had to be shifted back to the ICU.
President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury have expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of former law minister Khasru.
Law Minister Anisul Huq, 14-Party Alliance coordinator Amir Hossain Amu and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh also expressed profound shock and sorrow at the death of Khasru.
Khasru was elected president of SCBA for 2021-2022 in an election held on March 10 and 11 but could not take over the charge yet.
Born on February 12, 1950, Abdul Matin Khasru was a five-time MP for Cumilla-5 (Brahmanpara-Burichang) constituency. He served as the law minister during the Awami League-led government of 1996 to 2001.
