7-day general holidays likely to be declared Monday

The government is likely to announce a countrywide strict lockdown for a week from April 14 on Monday to contain excessive rise in coronavirus infections.
The announcement of a general holiday is now under process. The government is likely to announce the week-long lockdown on Monday. A proposal in this regard was sent to the Prime Minister's Office on Sunday. It is learned that preparations are underway for a gazette notification in this regard.
Sources at the Cabinet Division on Sunday said the government would announce a week-long general holiday. For the time being, it will be of one week, but there are plans to extend it for another week taking the prevailing coronavirus infection situation into account. Work is now underway on what other restrictions will be in place, including the closure of public transport during public holidays. These issues will be clarified in the circular.
Earlier on Friday, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said except emergency services, all government and private offices and factories will remain closed during the strict lockdown starting from April 14.
He said people would not be allowed to come out of their houses during the lockdown.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the government was actively considering imposing an "all-out lockdown" for one week from April 14.
He also said no change in the in behaviour of people happened during the ongoing 'lockdown'.
